India’s 1st EPD Conference was organised by GreenEx Environmental on 8–9 September 2026, at Taj Lands End in Bandra (West), Mumbai. It was the country’s first-ever conference dedicated to EPDs, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and carbon footprint reporting. CBAM, ESPR, the Digital Product Passport – Indian companies must now deliver on EU requirements, and interest was high.
LCA.no was represented in Mumbai by CEO Trond Edvardsen as one of the conference’s speakers.
– This is just the beginning
India has one of the world’s largest manufacturing industries, and as the EU tightens requirements for climate documentation on goods entering the European market, EPDs are quickly moving from optional to a prerequisite. In India, the market is still at an early stage – making it an exciting market.
– Things are changing very fast right now. Five years ago, EPD was almost unknown in India. Now decision-makers and manufacturers are sitting in the same room discussing how to get started – it’s the exact same movement we saw in Europe a few years ago, just at a much higher pace, says Trond Edvardsen
The conference as a meeting place
Indian companies export both raw materials to European manufacturers and finished products to distributors. For LCA.no, the conference was therefore about sharing knowledge and gaining a better understanding of the challenges Indian manufacturers face around verified environmental documentation. Among the speakers was a broad line-up of international and Indian names – from EPD Global, ECO Platform to leaders from Maharashtra’s Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and NITI Aayog, as well as sustainability leaders from major Indian companies such as Godrej and ITC. The Norwegian Embassy in India also took part in the conference, with its own presentation.
The opening day received significant attention in the international EPD community. It was described afterwards as a major success, with inspiring talks, engaging panel discussions and strong networking across LCA and EPD experts, industry leaders, authorities and IT professionals working on automation and digitalisation.
– Seeing how many people genuinely engaged with the conference gave me confidence that we’re seeing something big around climate and environment grow in India, says Trond.

The conference pointed clearly ahead: from CBAM and ESPR to the Digital Product Passport, Scope 3 reporting and digital, AI-driven automated EPDs. It paints a picture of an industry in rapid change – where EPD is no longer just about meeting requirements in Europe, but about building a global infrastructure for verified climate data.
