The EU is now rolling out a Digital Product Passport (DPP) — a digital system that follows products throughout their entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to recycling.
The DPP will apply to manufacturers and importers who place products on the EU market, and nearly all products are covered — except for food, pharmaceuticals, and animal feed.
In other words: documented environmental impact will become mandatory.

The Digital Product Passport is built on the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration). The EPD provides a verified, independent, and standardized overview of a product’s climate and environmental footprint based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
In practice, the EPD serves as the “proof” of a product’s environmental performance, while the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is the digital platform that makes this information accessible throughout the entire value chain.
That’s why it’s crucial to start with EPDs now.
The first product categories to be included under the DPP are batteries, textiles, and electronics, while construction products and building materials are next in line.
Companies without EPDs in place risk falling behind once the requirements become mandatory.
Being prepared means documenting sustainability in practice, building trust with customers, partners, and public stakeholders, and strengthening your position in an increasingly competitive market.

The benefits of starting early
Competitive advantage in tenders and projects:An EPD enables you to document sustainability in both private and public tenders and projects.
Transparency and trust:Being able to present verified data instead of general claims about “green” products builds credibility and trust in the market.
Preparation for DPP:The EPD is the foundation of the Digital Product Passport. If you’re working with EPDs now, you’ll be ready when the requirements take effect.
New business opportunities: Having EPDs in place can open doors to new projects and markets, while strengthening your company’s competitiveness and sustainability profile.
In other words, an EPD is not just a tool for documenting environmental impact — it’s the key to the Digital Product Passport.
Starting with EPDs now gives you control over sustainability, makes you more competitive, and prepares you for future requirements.
Those who don’t wait, win.
