Stricter climate regulations make verified environmental impact a competitive advantage

Tougher climate requirements under Denmark’s updated Building Regulations – coming into force on 1 July 2025 – are increasing the pressure on construction suppliers to document and reduce the environmental impact of their products. A low, verified carbon footprint is rapidly becoming a key competitive factor.

Etterspørsel fra entreprenører

At Building Green Aarhus, LCA.no was present together with a Danish partner. Here, we met a wide range of suppliers eager to understand how the new regulations will affect the market – and many of them were actively seeking tools for environmental documentation and EPDs.

– We spoke with many manufacturers who are feeling the pressure of the new carbon limits. They need fast, flexible tools with verified data, as contractors are now demanding environmental documentation in the very early phases of a project, says Hans-Martin Wehler, Key Account Manager at LCA.no.

He adds that there is also strong interest from industry associations that want to offer practical tools to their members.

Partnering with industry associations

LCA.no invites all industry organisations in the construction sector to get in touch and explore collaboration opportunities. Together, we can develop shared solutions that make sustainability work easier and more scalable across the value chain.

We are already working with Dansk Beton, for example, where we’ve helped create a tool that supports all types of concrete products. Member companies use the tool to document their efforts to develop low-carbon concrete.

New climate calculation requirements

The new climate requirements – taking effect on 1 July 2025 – aim to support more sustainable construction and lower emissions. This will have a major impact on the industry, which will need to optimise both material choices and building processes to stay within the new thresholds.

Carbon footprint calculations will be mandatory for all new buildings, requiring accurate data collection and the use of LCA tools.

– It’s becoming increasingly important for suppliers to get their documentation in place in order to stay competitive, says Inger Johanne Brodal Dahl, Key Account Manager at LCA.no.

– It’s now a genuine advantage to market yourself with a low environmental impact. Once you’ve produced an EPD, you have concrete figures to use in communication – without greenwashing, she explains.

A high carbon footprint may lead to lower pricing, while a low footprint can justify a premium price.

Scalable environmental documentation with the EPD Generator

For years, LCA.no has developed tools and services to support environmental documentation. Our systems are fully digitalised and automated, significantly reducing both the time and cost involved in creating EPDs.

Our EPD Generator allows companies to create new product-specific EPDs quickly and cost-effectively. All calculations and background data are third-party verified.

This makes our clients compliant with frameworks like ESPR, CSRD and CBAM – and well prepared for the upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP).

In addition, the tool provides insight that supports continuous improvement and business development.
